According to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, almost fifty-one percent of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes through lands administered by the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service. Of those lands, the Weeks Act has had a major impact on a 2,000-plus mile trail seen as a national treasure.
