The Weeks Act of 1911 is now recognized as a major breakthrough in American conservation history, resulting in the protection and restoration of more than 25 million acres of degraded forest, and creating many of the eastern National Forests. At this conference, leading conservationists will examine the significance of these accomplishments during the first hundred years of the Weeks Act, highlight innovative collaborative forest conservation initiatives that are achieving broad environmental and economic benefits, and identify opportunities to build on this success in the face of evolving conservation challenges.
